Born in Providence, RI, as a Navy Brat Dick is
“a native of everyplace”. He has lived in or visited 39 states,
lived in Japan and performed in several European countries. He holds
a bachelor’s degree in English from Holy Cross College with
minor-level credits in Behavioral Sciences, Philosophy and Theology.
Before accepting a full-time call to God’s service,
Dick built a national reputation as a financial marketer and senior
banking executive in the suburbs of Washington, DC. He has
co-authored business textbooks, and written extensively for leading
publications in both the banking and marketing industries. He has
been interviewed on national and regional TV and radio as an
authority on banking and as a child-protection advocate and was a
resource person at the Washington Post’s senior editors’
retreat.
As a church youth leader and volunteer, Dick has led
over 30 summer mission projects in Appalachia and in eastern North
Carolina, building and repairing housing for rural poor and Native
American communities. He has also served as a speaker and retreat
leader for Joni Eareckson Tada’s “Joni and Friends” family retreats
as well as several youth retreats in North Carolina and Virginia,
and has been a contributor to Youthworker Journal. Dick
also has an extensive background in youth spirituality, and has
served as a leader in both Chrysalis and Emmaus communities. He is
an ordained Elder and Commissioned Lay Pastor in the PCUSA.
Dick also has a varied record of accomplishment as a
singer. Locally, he is a member of the Oratorio Singers of Charlotte
and the Oratorio Chamber Singers, and has performed as a soloist at
the White House and in several major European cathedrals, including
St. Giles in Edinburgh, San Marco in Venice and Westminster Abbey,
as well as at the National Cathedral in Washington. He has sung in
auditioned choirs with a number of top conductors, including John
Rutter, George Guest, Simon Halsey, Anton Armstrong, Andre Thomas
and Constantina Tsolainou.
Dick and his wife Kay also enjoy their two grown
children, three grandchildren, two Granddogs and a Grandhorse.
